Case Study

Wankhede Stadium Turf Revitalization

Optimizing water quality for superior turf health

Summary

Wankhede Stadium, an iconic cricket venue in Mumbai, required high-quality water for stadium turf maintenance. was facing a recurring issue of grass degradation, uneven dew retention, and pitch dryness, especially during peak usage in the summer IPL season. Despite standard maintenance practices, the ground conditions were inconsistent and required high water input with suboptimal results. Avior Aqua deployed its Nanobubble Technology to purify and stabilize water quality without the use of chemicals or conventional RO systems, aiming for enhanced potability and ecological safety.

Location

Wankhede Stadium, Churchgate, Mumbai.

Client

Cricket Association of Mumbai.

Type of Case Study

Potable Water Quality Enhancement.

Start Date

08th May
2025

End Date

10th June
2025

Objective

To evaluate the effectiveness of nanobubble technology in:
→ Improving grass health and color consistency.
→ Reducing water consumption.
→ Enhancing pitch moisture retention.
→ Ensuring dew control for late evening matches.

Problem

Water samples collected on 05/05/2025 revealed:
High Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) : 750 mg/L.
Low pH : 6.09, acidic in nature.
High Electrical Conductivity : 1153.8 μmhos/cm.
Turbidity: 5 NTU.
Alkalinity imbalance and elevated hardness (CaCO₃ – 150 mg/L).
Presence of ammonia and magnesium beyond desirable limits.

Solution Implemented

Avior Aqua deployed its Nanoxy Nanobubble Generator at Wankhede Stadium for a 30-day pilot program. The system infused ultra-fine oxygen nanobubbles (<100 nm) into irrigation water to improve oxygen delivery at the root level, stimulate microbial soil activity, and enhance water penetration.

Results

Visual Improvement:

• Significant visual contrast between pre and post treatment turf quality.
• Patchy and dull zones revived into lush green, visibly healthier areas (See attached before-after photos).

Pitch Performance:

• Moisture retention increased, reducing over-drying of the central pitch zone.
• Dew impact during night matches minimized, improving match playability.
• Reduced patch recovery time.
Result comparisons before (08/05/2025) and after (10/06/2025) show remarkable improvement:

Conclusion

In just 30 days, Avior Aqua’s nanobubble technology delivered a holistic transformation of Wankhede Stadium’s turf and pitch conditions. The visibly greener and denser grass, enhanced root zone health, and uniform color restoration significantly improved the overall aesthetics and playability of the ground. Dew reduction and superior moisture retention created optimal match conditions even during peak evening hours. Additionally, the system turned poor-quality tanker water into a clean, odorless, and pH-balanced resource— sustaining the turf without any chemical inputs or RO filtration. The pilot sets a new benchmark for sustainable, non-invasive turf management and water optimization for stadiums and large urban landscapes.
