Football Turf Irrigation
Date

Introduction
Avior Aqua is a water technology company that specializes in nanobubble treatments. The quality of irrigation water is becoming an increasingly important concern for stadium turf operators to maintain the turf’s high standards, aesthetic appeal, and overall health. Irrigation water tank maintenance is an essential component of turf management. If tanks are not properly maintained, water quality may drop significantly, harming the turf quality. Stadium operators and football players expect a stadium turf to provide outstanding quality and perfect consistency.
The Problem
September 2019 at Szeged Municipal Stadium: Water from the borehole feeds a 150 m3 underground irrigation tank, which presents several issues:
Algal buildup and unpleasant smells in the water tank, low levels of dissolved oxygen, green/yellow murky water, yellow patches on the stadium turf, and low levels of dissolved oxygen in irrigation water provide anaerobic conditions in the tank that promote the growth of pathogenic bacteria and algae and spread on the turf, leading to yellow turf. The current generation of aerators is expensive and ineffective; they are unable to swiftly and evenly disperse dissolved oxygen across the entire irrigation system, which makes them unable to fix the issues.

Recommended Solutions :
Given that water reservoirs are small ecosystems where dissolved oxygen is essential for promoting beneficial bacteria, small irrigation tanks are particularly prone to becoming eutrophic and thus require improved aeration. Our specialists suggested using Nanoxy to treat the irrigation tank continuously based on on-site assessments and water analysis. Improving the turf’s root system, consistency, and general health were the goals, along with removing algae and supplying oxygen-rich water to the roots.
Implementation :
Avior Aqua is a water technology company that specializes in nanobubble treatments. In October 2019, one Nanoxy fine bubble generator was set up.
The work to install the power supply, set up the system, and lay water tubes into the underground tank took less than two days during the installation process. The initial water quality level, as determined by water analysis, was as follows:
The work to install the power supply, set up the system, and lay water tubes into the underground tank took less than two days during the installation process. The initial water quality level, as determined by water analysis, was as follows:
Dissolved oxygen: < 4 mg/L
Irrigation Tank
Before Start
Strong unpleasant odour, green murky water, low water visibility.
Oxygen dissolved < 4 mg/L
After 30 days
The odor disappeared. decreased level of algae Clarity of the water improved. Oxygen dissolved > 7 mg/L
After 60 days
No odours, no presence of algae, visibility in water increases.
Dissolved oxygen: > 15 mg/L
Results :
Stadium turf
The stadium soils become more aerobic due to the irrigation water’s high concentration of dissolved oxygen, and the following results were noted:
Very thick and long roots
No yellow spots
Extremely robust and thick turf
No root rot observed

BENEFITS

Pathogen Reduction : 100% elimination of pathogens on the playing ground and in irrigation water.
Reduction of Fertilizer and Pesticides : +50% reduction for fertilizers and
Pesticides because of significant increases in the density and length of turf roots
Reduced Maintenance : Because of the thick, healthy turf without any yellow patches, there has been a 50% decrease in maintenance work after plays.
Chemical Treatment : 100% reduction in the need for chemical treatment of biofilm in the irrigation system.
Aeration Costs : 100% reduction in aeration costs, with irrigation water reaching over 200% dissolved oxygen saturation.

Our technology provides a 100% natural solution to reactivate aerobic soil. Improved aerobic conditions provide nitrogen-fixing bacteria with the required environment, giving them the ability to
significantly enhance turf growth.
